MARIE-CLAIRE
ALAIN, of Paris, France, one of
the great legends of the
concert world, will be featured in an evening recital on the large
Noack
tracker organ at Trinity Lutheran Church, Worcester. Madame Alain
will
also present a workshop on the repertoire of her late brother
Jehan Alain(1911-1940).
She has recorded more than 260 discs, many of them complete
works, and has given more than 2000 organ recitals internationally.
She is
currently making a revised edition of Alain's organ works based
on newly
discovered manuscripts and has recently published several of his
instrumental works. Bring your scores of Alain's music to this
workshop.
ALICE PARKER, noted composer, conductor, and teacher, will conduct a Convention
Sing at Wesley Methodist Church, Worcester. One of the country's most charismatic
song leaders will lead the audience in song, helping all to rediscover the intricacies
of single-line melody, and the infinite possibilities for their extension through
choral improvisation. Ms. Parker will also present a workshop entitled Choral
Reading of "Hymns and Spirituals," offering her unique insights into
melodies, structure and performance possibilities of new arrangements of music
